Bread Pesach/Passover Unleavened

Unleavened Bread 01

Ingredients

2 cups bread flour (All purpose, whole wheat, or other flour will work as well. Just do not use self rising or any other flour with leavening agents in it.)

1 teaspoon Salt

Chosen seasonings (optional)

¾ cup Cold Water

2 tablespoons Organic Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven 450°F.
  2. Add the dry ingredients to a stand mixer and mix until combined.
(If adding spices/seasoning, it works better to add the spices to the dry ingredients and mix them together before adding the liquids)
  3. Add the water and olive oil and mix until well combined.
  4. Switch to the dough hook and knead on low speed for about 5 minutes.
  5. If the dough is too sticky, slowly and little by little, add some flour allowing for each addition to be thoroughly incorporated before adding more. If the dough is too dry, then slowly and little by little, add a little bit more water allowing for each addition to be thoroughly incorporated before adding more.
  6. Remove from the mixer and separate the dough into at least 2 portions. The more portions you divide into, the smaller the final result will be.
  7. On a lightly floured surface roll each portion out flat to about 1/8″ – 1/16″ thickness dusting with more flour if needed to prevent sticking. Do not worry about the shape of the bread unless you have a specific use in mind (like pizza dough). Prick with a fork or pierce with a pizza docker.
  8. Bake each portion on a greased cookie sheet or parchment paper for about 15 minutes in oven.

Adaptations

  1. Adding 3 teaspoons (or 1 Tablespoon) of Italian Herb mix makes for some very tasty unleavened bread.
  2. Adding the italian herb mix and then prebaking the bread for 15 minutes makes for some excellent pizza dough for thin crust pizza.
  3. Feel free to add other spices and flavorings as well. Powdered garlic and grated parmesan is a wonderful mix. Even adding the “everything” bagel seasoning bumps it up a notch.
